    Post Downloading file boo boo

Ok here goes.I bought this program online and it was all to be downloaded from the site. There was one area to download it was a zip file (remember I am tottally new to the whole pc thing). It asked me for the place to open it from, well I have no idea what this means and I asked my son he had me use SimTown which now says the info is not there. But whenever I try to find the file SimTown comes up(the game). So I tried to delete it and there is one file that will not allow me to delete so it is stuck there.I also tried to delete SimTown thinking it would take the file also but it didn't.So I have this info I can't use and paid for.I don't know how to move it and change the way to open the file. Can someone please help this dummy????
    Thanks Kim

    Hi dungeon,
Do you have Winzip? It's a free downloadable application that opens Zip files. If you type in www.winzip.com and follow the download instructions you will have a program that will open zip files. Also if you go to your start menu and go to find and then type in *.zip and search for it on your c drive it will find that lost zip file I think. I'm just learning myself,'hope this is helpful. Post back. There are some very capable people who visit this forum.

last i checked Winzip was shareware; which means it's free for awhile but then you have to pay for it. go here for a true free zipping utility.

hehe nimorf2... YES we read your posts as well... and you apparently are reading ours! (in reference to your other post)

iisbob, is correct winzip is shareware, however after having winzip for a few years, the only thing I notice (by NOT actually purchasing it) is that you have a 'small 'nag' screen that you need to click "I agree", and it always works just fine.

Yeh, i actually bough it a couple years ago before i seriously got into " program reverse engineering for education " phase; ...cough, cough.
i like it, and i would recommend it if someone wanted to purchase a good zip program. But, like the link i posted, there are some very good truely free apss out there now-so it's up to the person i suppose.

Still miffed..hope that person observes this thread where rather than just answering one question with one answer...there is a batch of useful info. Freely sharing info and experience; think that's what it is about here.

    Hey Dungeon,
In case you've seen these last few posts, they don't refer to you. We're all pleased that our advice helped you. Ya see, there was/is this other person who communicated some criticism about the helpfulness of this forum on another track. I'm not really sure he/she was legitimately trying to say something constructive, may have just been trying to yank some chains. Ya never know. If he/she was trying to be helpful....well....it did make me feel more like a comrade of the goodguys on this forum getting attacked that way....Anyhow, I'm glad my neophyte advice was helpful to you. Indeed even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. eh?

I much prefer WinZip's icons, but a freeware alternative is EnZip. For me, EnZip works as well as WinZip.
