Thank youMJC for the reccomendation a while back in regards to a good, inexpensive alternative to MS Office 2000 (and the likes). I finally bit the bullet and downloaded approx 80MB worth of the program and installed it without a hitch. The good thing about the download is that you can do it all at once or they have it segmented into 10 pieces averaging 10MB each. The thing I did was use FlashGet (download manager)...this good for the download process, BUT...the file names are very long and FlashGet was renaming each segment the same...Here is what I did...I downloaded each ".bin" file and renamed it back to it's original file name. The ".exe" (setup) files I just downloaded using the default Windows app. Everything worked great this way.
I was really impressed to see the GUI was so familiar and easy to use. There are programs similar to that of MS Office like a presentation app, spreadsheet, database, drawing, mail, business cards, templates for all kinds of documents personal and professional, HTML editor, and the list goes on...comes with a set of graphics (more than the standard provided by 'the other guys' and cooler pics to boot). Integration of 'other' formatted documents is handled nicely as well. There is more, but...
So, I guess what I'm saying is that for us folks that like to build our own and don't get the High $$$ software bundled this is a very good Office Suite for FREE. I download Version 5.2 from www.staroffice.com
Again, thanks to MJC for the link.
ps-Sorry I haven't been around to help you guys lately...putting in OT at the job
