Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 doesn't install. Do I really need it?
OS: Win XP Pro
It seems like every day I get the message, Updates are ready for your computer. Click here to install these updates. That update is .NET Framework 1.1. and I dutifully click and Windows begins the installation process, but then I get the following window: ![]() Microsoft is aware of the problem but the solution looks rather complicated. Should I just ignore the message and wait until another .NET Framework service pack is released that hopefully doesn't have any bugs? I'm willing to go through all 13 steps of Method 1 in the KB article--like I've got nothing better to do with my time--but how necessary is it? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Just disable Automatic Update in Control Panel for a while. When you will run into a program that will need it (.Net), it will usually auto-install it if they know there is a problem.
