Unhappy Did something dumb, help me b4 wife kills me

Alright, I'm a mac guy. I know I know. Anyway I was on my wife's computer trying to eject her external harddrive and I decide to drag it to the recycle bin (cause that's what we mac guys do). The next time I plug it in it tells me I need to initialize it to use it. I do not do this because I'm thinking I've got trouble. And I do have trouble cause the hard drive now says it needs to be initialized to use and it has a whole mess of files on it that aren't backed up anywhere else.

I am desperately hoping there is an easy fix for this. Please help.

you will be saving me grief.

If you double-click on the recycle bin what does it show in there?

The recycle bin is not an automatic delete. You can restore what is located in there...until you empty the recycle bin...then there's trouble getting it back.
