Hello Shavra

1. I'll assume you've read the help files in sound recorder.

2.
a. Either right-click on the little speaker icon down-right in the "System Tray" and select "Open Volume Controls" or:
b. Go to "Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment >Volume Control", click on Volume Control and the volume control dialog box will open. Now
c. click "Options>Properties" and click the little round "Option Button" marked "Recording". Down below you will see a window named "Show the following Volume Controls". Make sure the little square "Tick Box" named "Microphone" is ticked then click the "ok" button below.
You will now be shown a "Recording Control" dialog box which will include a slider named "Microphone Balance" and another [in which you are particularly interested] named "Volume". Adjust this to about mid-way or more to achieve a recorded sound level which is loud enough without being distorted. Now when you record in sound recorder you should see a green waveform on playback indicating that recorded sound exists and you must adjust the playback volume to suit.
Please note that you must use "Options>Properties" in "Volume Control" to switch between "Recording" and "Playback" sliders.
Be aware that Sound Recorder is only able to record very small "wav" files, i.e. recordings of short time duration. Find out it's limits.

Some sound cards require the installation of controlling software and they then have additional volume controls. This complicates matters and you must also adjust these separate volume controls.
