Audio problems

Hello everyone,

Need help on the following 2 problems. I need exact websites to get the information and i would appreciate the most details as possible (thx in advance as usual)

I have a Pentium 166, 32 MB, 10GB HD, Windows 98 SE
Problem: no sound coming out
Speakers work, are connected, sound card is plugged ok. When i look in the device manager (under properties for each device that i have an interrogation mark) i have the following messages concerning audio:

1) Device type: Soundblaster 16 or AWE-32 or compatible
Manufacturer: Creative
Device either not present, not working properly or does not have all drivers installed

I tried the update of drivers within device manager, windows goes through its database, and says i have the latest one (not too sure about this since the date of the driver is 1999

Where can i get drivers for this or correct this

2) problem #2 concerns audio as well. in device manager i have 5 interrogation marks beside the same device (all the same thing)in the catefory: other device

AD-Chips Audio Adapter

Device type: other device
Manufacturer: none
hardware: 1.00
This device is not working properly because the BIOS in the device is reporting ressources for the device incorrectly coded.
Contact the device manufacturer to get an updated BIOS.
In the driver tab, it says : no drivers are required or are loaded, try the update drivers button (i tried, nothing)

I have no clue what this means exactly, what should i try, do..

Hmmmm, no clue really since it was put from parts from a friend of mine.
How would i figure this part out exactly ?

Look for a set of audio connector on the motherboard or look for a header labeled Audio (or something like that).

Try going into your BIOS and seeing if the is an entry for something like AC'97 codec or AC codec etc (might be under Advanced Chipset features), if look for an option to disable it. Also if you have the manual for this board (right, old board) then it should have how to disable it

Boot into safe mode and look under the Sound Devices..remove any duplicates you find, reboot.

hello again,

i tried a few things.

In BIOS, i have nothing with AC codec, etc.
I also went into safe mode, took out 4 of the appearances of Audio chips. Rebooted. Then windows recognized new hardware 4 times. I said not to install and got the following message:
The windows sound system board is not responding properly. Run set up and reset your hadrware config.

Questions:

for my problem 1 stated above (initial post) : will getting the good drivers correct that problem (what web site can i find them)

for my problem 2 (initial post): what are exactly AD chips, if in any way i am able to open and check the MB and disable them, will i still have sound if problem 1 is resolved ?
