Post PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

If anybody knows anything about converting PCM streams into CODEC format, specifically MP3, please drop me an email! (bobthebob@hotmail.com)

(I am trying to record my telephone conversations and can only do it using MS-PCM, no CODEC works - with the exception of 8 kBit, 8,000 Hz Mono - and yes, I do have my sampling rate set to the same as the CODEC)

Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks!!!

You might be facing a limitation of you modem in the mix, it may not let you do anything higher than 8k...yeah not the greatest quality...

what software are you using for this process, it may also be a limiting factor.

If I remember the voicemail/answering machine program I have is limited to something like 8k mono....just checked, and yes, 8k mono is all it will let me do for a sample rate.

Hiya MJ,

Didn't really think about the modem being an issue, but it's an interesting point. Glad someone has at least posted on this one tho!!

This is what I have at the mo:
1 x PC (pretty standard spec w/ half-decent soundcard)
1 x Telephone
1 x Phone - soundcard connector (REALLY simple, just plugs in between the handset and the base of the phone, then plugs into the mic port on the soundcard)

This setup allows me to record any signal coming through the phone onto my PC via the mic socket. Simple

My problem lies in the fact that I'm trying to convert the PCM stream into some other CODEC format (as PCM creates a sucky .wav file - uses too much space when I'm recording all day!)

I've been beating my head against the wall with this, and I even resorted to reading the readme file for the software (useless) - I also emailed the technical support monkeys but they have obviously just grasped the concept of IT and aren't the most useful people.

I've got some recent CODECs which hasn't helped and I've reinstalled the s/c with the latest drivers. <sniff>

Nothing works.

What software are you using?

In Bitware I am limtited and can't see any way of changing the CODEC...I think part of the problem is the basic underlying part of this software is OLD..and hasn't really been updated.

You could probably convert the wav files after they are using something like DBPower Amp Music Converter from here. You can plug in just about any codec...
