Unhappy Defragmentation

I have a Celeron 365Mhz P2 laptop with 64Mb memory. Have Win98SE installed as well as Norton systemworks, MSoffice 2000 Premium and other programs. Every time i startup the darn thing it takes about 4 tot 5 minutes to do so. Anyone for the answer?
Thanx!

Hey Wannabee,

Go to RUN and type msconfig. Under the startup tab, check to see how many programs you have loading at startup. You only need the bare minimum to start up on boot. Anything you may need later, for example, Norton, can be started once you are up and running in Windows. I have a feeling that you have a lot of Norton's programs loading at startup.

I can't remember what the other guys recommend for programs to load at startup, but at least two that you need are systray and explorer. Maybe task monitor as well. The rest is just fluff that eats resources and slows the boot process.

Cheers,

Big Blue 66
