Post case removal of compaq presario 1200 laptop computer

I suspect that there is no modem physically installed in my laptop computer because a system search for a modem by Windows 98 results in no modem being detected. How would the case be removed in order to check whether a modem is actually hooked up to the laptop computer?

Removing laptop cases can be a nightmare, and I have no idea how to do it.

Being a Compaq, it's most likely a winmodem, HCF or HSF, and the system search often won't find them, they have to be installed by a software installation program. That should be on the restore disk, or if you could find out what modem it is you can ususally download it.

If the computer is still under warranty I would take it back and see what the techs can find out wherever you bought it. They might be able to get into the case, or if it's not under warranty maybe they can tell you how to go about opening it.
