Unhappy Laptop Display Problem

I recently purchased a HP Omnibook 5700CTX laptop at an estate sale and everything seems fine except for one thing: The display on the screen is about 1/3 the total screen size . I went into Display / Settings in the OS (Windows 98) and the info. was that I could have 16 colors or 2 colors (b&w). Also , the properties seems to be set up for a 20" HP monitor. How do I restore the original screen settings? Any help would be apppreciated. The Courier

I would go to the HP site : http://www.hp.com/cposupport/eschome.html and find your specific model........Go to the Manual and find out which Video Card it has in it.......download the drivers for the card and install them......you probably will find "Standard VGA" as the Display Adapter in Device Manager (Control Panel/Device Mgr/Display Adapter). Once you have the right Adapter Card & Drivers.....you should be able to adjust the # of screen colors & size with no problems. As far as the monitor goes...just remove the current monitor in Device Mgr. and let win98 refind your Laptop monitor.
