Question Sony VAIO F250 Keyboard Issue

Recently, several keys on my Sony VAIO PCG F250 notebook keyboard will not produce any characters when depressed. The number six key, the dash/underline key, the home key and the delete key. I realize this is a hardware problem and will have to be addressed by a Sony Service Repairman, however, I would like to know if anyone knows the cause of this problem and what will be involved in repairing it.

Could be something as simple as needing a good cleaning or as complicated as need to replace the functioning part of the keyboard.....
