I've a toshiba tecra and would like to use the serial port to attach an external mouse or keboard.
I attached an adaptor to the serial port but it will not recognise either. Any ideas ------------------ Barry C

Just using a PS/2-to-serial adapter won't be enough; a mouse's circuitry must be designed for dual mode, and I haven't heard of a PS/2 keyboard being hooked up to the serial port.
Also, does your BIOS have the option to enable/disable the serial port? |

The easiest way to use both external keyboard and mouse with the Toshiba laptop
Is using the Y adapter with the external keyboard connector. Or you can pickup one of the old style serial mice and use it with the serial port . The Y adapter is about the least expensive.. ------------------ To ERR is HUMAN To REALLY screw things UP, YOU NEED a COMPUTER ! |

You may have to use the older serial mouse in order to have both the external keyboard and a the mouse.....
