Cyber Patrol

I downloaded the Cyber Patrol software from the bt internet homepage to restrict access to the internet. Changed my mind and uninstalled it . But it won't let me ! Now I can connect to the internet but not access anything . I have deleted all the files called cyber patrol in windows explorer but still to no avail. As I don't have a clue what to do now can anyone suggest a way forward ?

What is your operating system? I think replacing the registry with a backup copy made before the Cyber Patrol install might do it. Need to know what version of Windows we're dealing with before going any further.

I'm using Windows '98 but I warn you now my computing skills are not too hot !!!

Your computing skills don't need to be too hot, but your ability to follow instructions does

When you boot the computer tap the [F8] key every second or two until you get a boot menu. Usually it works when you see Starting Windows or Verifying Pool Data. Use the cursor keys to highlight the option you want, choose Command Prompt Only and at the C:\> prompt type:

scanreg_/restore

replacing the underscore ( _ ) typed here with a space. This will allow you to replace the registry with a previous backup copy, pick one dated before you installed the problem program. Use the keyboard cursor keys to highlight the one you want, and press [Enter]. when the restore operation is finished, scanreg will pop up a window telling you it's done, reboot and you should be fixed up.

No joy ! I tried the back-up as suggested below and unfortunately the back-up files listed only go back to 5/11/00 which is not far enough back.

RATS!! Sure was hoping that would work...

OK, try this one...go to Start\Find\Files or Folders and type in *.pwl

Delete any pwl files that are found. Those are your password lists. If coolness still isn't achieved, get back to us, we'll try something else...

Unfortunately, that something else might involve getting some registry experience...which does not make me happy, since it can turn into trouble if you make a mistake...

You need to hold Ctrl down during boot up with 98 to get the start menu.
F8 for 95.
