Empty boxes where there should be pictures

Having another non-emergency problem.
When a site I've requested pops up, the text comes up fine, but
the rectangles and squares where graphics should be only have
the description in text of the graphic which should be
appearing. Anyone know what's going on. BTW--Thanks to Musky
for helping me out on the Disappearing Desktop icon.

Don't know what browser you are using, but both IE and Netscape have options to not load images. For IE, go into Internet Properties and click on Advanced and go down to "Multimedia" and you will see an option for "Show Image Download Placeholders" and just make sure its not checked. Netscape will have some similar kind of option as well.

Don't know if you're still checking this, but this can also be a problem at the website. The path to the picture can be wrong in their HTML, or the server having problems. If this happens with every website, then I'd suspect problems on your machine. In that case, dale's advice sounds good.

I too am having this problem. It started about 4 weeks ago and don't ask me what I installed because there were many items I was reviewing at the time. Most of them were digital picture catalog tools.

My problem is this, I can not view any jpg, tif, etc files on my own computer using IE5.5, though I can see / view the same files using Netscape 4.7. I do not have this problem when viewing the same files after ftping them to my personal @home site. I can see the files when working in Dreamweaver on my local machine, but then when I preview my work I must use Netscape.

I am running Win98SE on a Gateway 750 with 256M ram, a Nvidia TNT2 with 32M ram. My preferred browser is IE.

It would have been better to start a new topic, than to dredge up this rather old one, keep that in mind for next time...

Basically what you have done is lost the ability to preview graphics in IE, right?

You can try running the IE repair tool go to Add/Remove programs -> scroll down to MS Internet Explorer 5.5 ->click it and then click the repair option.

Yes, I have tried running IE's "repair" tool. I also tried the Tools / Internet Options / Advanced / Multimedia / Show Pictures option (both unchecked and checked) This feature works correctly.

And yes, in IE I caanot preview graphics, specifically, jpg and tif files within HTML files, only located on my own computer.
