Have been trying to set up internet access for a friend with a new computer. Running Win XP with IE6 etc on a dial up connection. Opening IE allows web access. If you open Outlook Express, the E-mail works OK. BUT if you open Outlook Express from the Mail button in internet explorer, the connection is dropped! I have checked everything I can think of in both IE and OE with no success. I am not familiar with windows XP, so am I missing something? Help please.

In OE, go to the Options and check to see if "Hang up after..." is checked, it should be on the connection tab.

MJC. I have checked that and it's not checked(if you get me!
) OE is set to use the same connection as IE, and connects fine by itself. Just when opened from IE. can't see any difference in the setting between that machine and mine, and this one works fine. Thanks for quick reply anyway.David

If IE gives unexpected probs, among the first things I try are:
Go into Tools/InternetOptions. Under the advanced tab, click the restore defaults button. Close IE and then from Add/Remove do a RepairIE (and better still do this while in Safe Mode. For your specific problem I would see what happens if you set "Never Dial a Connection" from the Connection Tab if this is not already set and also click on LAN settings - remove everything there (unless your ISP requires proxies). One other trial and error thing would be to remove the eMail button and then put it back again. I have know this correct things for the Edit/ViewSource Button. If I come across I tweak I will post back. |

LOL
Must be like an uninstall and reinstall ..... of a button!! I guess it must just rewrite the registry or some .ini file when it's set up anew. ![]()
