XP compatible modem or not

I have a friend who's having problems connecting to the internet. She has upgraded fom ME to XP. The modem that is listed as a generic 56K
HCF datafax modem. Is anyone familiar with this modem? and is it XP
compatible? Every attempt to connect fails, the last time with the
message, firewalled???? She uses Bellsouth.net and has no firewall on her computer. Suggestions?

XP requires a lot of hardware to upgrade drivers so I would look to see if this modem needs one. A good place to find out is:

Good luck,

Send a message via ICQ to ranchdog
XP has it's own "firewall."

Need to make sure the present modem drivers
she is using are XP compatable.

Do a google.com search for that particlar
modem and you should find some drivers.

Ranchdog: Thanks for the response. Your right about the XP firewall and
I had forgotten that little item under network connections.I dont use XP that often but will definitely check it and see. The driver that is listed with it is Microsoft version 5.0.0.2 dated 7/1/2001.

The latest problem with this modem is under network connection there is no place to uncheck the firewall. All she has is dialup and make a new network connection, also under file, properties, it's grayed out. This
XP is the upgrade version if that makes a difference. Suggestions?
