Dial up betwork error 721

According to a list of Microsoft dial up networking errors, 721 is a remote PPP peer is not responding. My question is.... Is this an ISP
problem, in this case Bellsouth.net or something in the computer that needs to be addressed?

You need to post more information about your system.

For example if you have XP and an HP computer this may apply to you

Thanks for the response. It is an upgrade to Win XP but not an HP. When
I had the machine last weekend, I had it connecting with my ISP and
dialing long distance to connect with her number in TN. It worked period. Now the only other difference is she took it back to TN and is
attempting to dial from her location. I suspect somthing wrong at her location. Just looking for suggestions. I maintain that if it worked out of state at my location in KY and nothing changed, then it should work when she dial her number in TN. Very confusing. If it needed an XP updated driver then it would not have worked as well as it did.Open to other suggestions?

Brain Dead windows is attempting to use the 1-Area code- number ?
It only needs the Number

If the area code set in control panel ( reset while in KY)is different than her local area code windows adds it ( Area Code) automatically..

Sounds like Rick could be on the right track. You can over-ride the default DUN properties by unchecking the "use Area Code and dialing properties" check box .. and then .. type in the exact code plus number that you would normally dial manually into the "Telephone Number Box".

Thanks for the response.......but I removed my connection plus we made her default dial up her number without the one and area code. I did make a one and area code connection at one point so that I could dial her number long distance to see if it worked. It did. That number, the one with the
one and area code is still listed but not as default. We can certainly have her remove it and see what happens.

Time to put this thread to bed, she called early this PM and stated that
a Bellsouth technican had her change a line in the initialization code of the modem. Not sure what command was added or deleted but it worked and is now on line.
