I am very unhappy with my cable internet provider. The caps are ridiculously low. 1500 down and 128 up. It took me over 2 1/2 hours to upload several files to a newsgroup last night.
Is there a way to get them to move these caps upward or even remove them? I suppose it would take a lot of customers doing a lot of complaining... Thanks.

Not much you can do but talk with your wallet by switching broadband access providers. But since most poeple don't seem to care about upload speeds you'll find that alot of ISPs cap their speed at between 128 and the mid 200s or so. (my Earthlink dsl is in the lower 300s and only because I'm so close to the CO)
In my area we have several choices for broadband access and the cable guys still won't give you a high cap unless you get one of their more expensive business plans. Good Luck ![]()

Yeah, they're probably not going to uncap your connection unless you upgrade to a faster access package. You may be able to get another modem and use both of them together. I read an article about that somewhere...if that is possible with your service it would double your theoretical speed...
Check to see if there's not a problem with your connection though. If you're not getting speeds anywhere near what have been promised, then they might need to run new wires to your house. But, could be worse, you could be stuck with dial-up.

Actually, there is no upgrade package. The ISP is Mediacom and they handle mainly of the rural areas. SO the only other choice would be dial-up. I was stuck with that for a few months after I moved into the area, before cable access was available.
Oh, well. I can live with it. Thanks guys.

You could try tweaking your cable modem settings,
Check out: http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_mode..._patches.shtml and also: http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/ Also before you tweak, check your speeds against these tests at http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/Bandwidth.asp and record your original results (to compare). I noticed inprovement using some of these tweaks. Hope this helps, Olie
