MS Messenger

Not sure whether it should be here or Software. So plumped for here.

MS Messenger 5.
Logitec Quick Cam.

I cam recive video in but not out. (I can see other person but they cannot see me) Sound goes both ways clearly.

Tried with ZA running and not running. Prefer to have it running so if possible solution that allows me to keep fire wall. Also would I have to allow messenger to have server rights?

Anybody any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

I have now managed to get both video and sound

I did not have messenger set to use the logitec camera driver. It was set for my ATI driver. So one problem solved.

But I have to stop Zone Alarm off to get it to work and I am not keen on that. Is there a way to continue using ZA and web cam at same time?

Check the ZA programs list aand make sure you haven't excluded the camera software, plus it may need server rights.

I have tried that but to no availe.

If I try to start cam conversition with ZA en-abled I cannot recieve or send video.

If I stop ZA and start cam conversation, I have no problems.

If I re-start ZA when connected the cam gets disconnected. This when server rights are en-abled as well.

Ok, try this, clear the ZA log, then with ZA enabled try a couple thigs with the camera, then post that portion of the log. It is possible that ZA is letting the request out but blocking the acknowledgement. Since your software is waitng for that ack to complete the connection, it is never making it. If the IP of where you are connecting to is static there may be a work around.

Also ZA Pro, is probably more likely to be able to be configured than ZA Free.

Below is the complete contents of the new Zone Alarm log. I am on Dial up connection. I have blanked out the last few digets of the IP addy (if you need them I can give them to you)

I cleared the ZA log, then connected to the net and started Messenger with with ZA enabled and running. At this point I am able to hold a typed conversation without problems.

Next I disabled ZA and then started Messenger(5) video link

I made sure I had good connection by holding conversation and video link for a few minutes. I then enabled ZA, the video picture I was recieving froze and then dissapeared altogether. About 10 seconds after that the camera stopped responding. (I once again had the "Start camera choice on the desktop - If I had dis-abled ZA again I would have been able to re-connect.)

Yep, looks like ZA is blocking it for sure......

You can try with your settings on medium, as opposed to high.

Add the domain or IP address that you connect to in order to hold the conference to the Trusted Zone
Turn off the conferencing program's "Remote Desktop Sharing" option

Where is this quoted from?
I will reset security to Medium, but wolud like to try and add to trusted sites. Is this in IE "Tools/Internet Options" and similar(hopefully) in Opera?

Where do I get the IP addy for this? One of the ones that was/is in the log?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but as I keep saying I am on a learning curve. The only thing wrong with a curve though, is that it comes full circle if it goes on long enough and I end up back where I started.
