Question LCD screen

I have a Gateway Solo 2500. The lcd screen all of a sudden went to white. I checked the cables/ribbon from the LCD screen to motherboard and all or tight. I have not checked where the ribbons connects to the LCD. I tried to boot to a start up disk to see if it could be a windows driver but screen still white. Laptop seems to be working fine (accessing the harddrive and cd spins) Is there any other test I can run before I invest in another LCD screen?

Thanks for help.

I can think of 2 things to test:

1. Hook up an external monitor and see if it works. If it does, the problem is probably with the screen. If not, it is probably the video card.

2. Try the warranty test, look up your warranty info to see if the thing is still covered by Gateway so they eat the cost of fixing it. A notebook screen should go bad unless it has been badly abused.

The other thing I would do it play with any settings you can find that that might effect the screen. It is possible it is just maxed out on Brightness or something like that.

Also could be either the edge connector is defective or the display has suffered a fine crack in the substrates. Either case requires replacement of screen assemblies.Could also mean LCD's driver circuit is shot. If it is under warrenty great if not best of luck.

check the brightness of your screen. If that is not it, call gateway and pray that it is still under warranty.

Have you checked if the display mode is built-in LCD? Most notebooks have display option for internal monitor, inernal and external monitors, external monitor etc.

Yes....that was the problem. It seems that one of the kids had pressed
the F key that changes to external monitor.
All is well now. Thanks for all the help.
