reload ?

hi.. I bought a notebook from ( www.justlaptops.co.uk ) an ex demo model , it arrived ok & is working fine though they said it was a p4 1.8 it shows up as p4 1.4 . however my main prob is there was no reload cd or manual they say it will follow in the post . My fear is if it does not so I went to the Fujitsu web site & tried to find my model there was nothing under C.. series model 1020 . I have tried phoning him but is hard to contact . If the machine needed say reformating ect , I have another copy of Win xp but what would be the best way of getting the rest of my drivers ect backed up , or is there a prog for copying the whole drive like a reload cd . Maybe I am just nervy but I like to be prepared .

First, it sounds like you were ripped off. Unless you got this laptop at a really good price, the difference between a 1.4 and 1.8 P4 is substantial. You might want to see about returning it immediately, unless you believe you still got a good deal. Even if you did, it suggests that the vendor is not entirely honest...

Second, are you sure that isn't model #2010. They do have a C series model with that designation.

Third, are you sure it is a C series computer in the first place. The specs you posted look like they are from the original ad since they also say the computer is a 1.8 P4. I wonder if it is even the same model/series as what is in the ad. If you don't know, you might want to download Aida32 and run it to get the inside story on what the computer actually is. This might also give you a stronger position in talking with the vendor.

Hi lads .. benchmark with aida 32

motherboard .. fujitsu-siemens lifebook c series

cpu .. mobileintel pentium 4m 1400 ( 3.5 * 400 )

bus type ..intel
bus 64 bit
real clock 100 mhz (qdr )
effective clock 400 mhz

mem size 256 mb
type ddr sdram
speed pc2100 ( 133mhz )

chipset via vt8751 (a) pro savage ddr p4m 266 ( a)

bios type .. insyde
bios date 7/5/02

Yes it looks like it is the wrong specsas far as speed of cpu goes . I paid £599 so what do you think asfar as price goes if I can not get my cash back. Also could you give me the best resolotion for getting back ups .eg . drivers or complete resore prog in the event of some failure in the futue .

Many thanks IANUK

That price seems like a lot to me even if you did get what you thought you ordered, but I am not that familiar with laptop prices especially in the UK. You might want to check around some other sites for similar laptops and see what they are going for. Regardless, it appears the vendor either pulled a scam or made an honest mistake. If it was an honest mistake, hopefully they will make it right. If it was a scam, I suspect you are stuck.

As for backing up the system, you will need some kind of external media and probably need to make an image of the drive with something like Norton Ghost or Drive Image. You might be able to use a PCcard hard drive, an external USB CDRW, or USB hard drive.

Hi Bulfred .. price in uk would still seem ok . however I phoned Fujitsu uk & they checked out the model there is a C series 1020 , you can find it on www.drivers-cd.com . All the drive downloads are on there so that would solve that problem if it was needed & I have a copy of win xp so that is covered ( do you need a start up disk for xp if you could not boot or does xp load itself ) . I also asked Fujitsu about the promised warranty they said the warranty had already been used on this machine & had expired , I contacted my Visa card they said if I was not happy they could obtain a refund in full , but to phone him & attempt a deal .eg . pay the warranty or a discount . I would appreciate advice on the xp loading & would like to thank you all for your expert help . this site is superb .

Thanks IANUK

If your BIOS allows the option to boot from CD, you will be able to install WinXP directly from the CD... it is designed to do that since it doesn't use DOS. However, if the computer was sold to you with XP and other programs loaded, but no disks for those programs, it sounds like another way this vendor may be disreputable. That on top of the wrong computer and no warranty would make me extremely unhappy about the situation...

it says its running at 1.4 or the processor is listed as a 1.4

my laptop is a p4-2.0 and sometime it says its running at 1.2 ghz and other times 1.99 ghz. i think laptops do that to charge batteries or something. not quite sure but my compaq also did that.

A step down can be a power saving feature on some notebooks, but the one that Ianuk bought isn't even coming to the full advertised speed in use. It is simply not the laptop he paid for...

Well, he can't be all that bad.....a full version CD is much better than any "reload" CD.
