How difficult to upgrade?
What are some problems/benefits to having a laptop, upgrade wise?
Also, I've noticed that my moms notebook seems to run slower when it isn't plugged in, as to when it is plugged in. Does it underclock the processor? Thanks Joe |

Most laptops use power managment to extend battery life. Slowing CPU clock speeds is one strategy used when on battery power.

Generally the best way to upgrade a laptop is to buy a new one...
They can be upgraded with lots of external devices, but they lose most of their portability if you go that route. In general, you can do limited upgrading of RAM and the hard drive, but most upgrades are going to cost more than they would in a desktop and are going to be more difficult to do... You will also usually void your warranty as soon as you open the case....
