erratic mouse & cpu spikage

my pavilion ze4315 running winxp has started to have touchpad mouse problems.
my mouse freezes and behaves erratic.
in the windows task mgr. under the performance tab the cpu usage spikes to 60-90% every minute or so which seems to coincide with the crazy mouse.
after much frustration, i used wipe drive software and wiped the hard drive, reformatted and installed the os but the problem remains.

does anyone have any ideas

What kind of mouse/keyboard? Did it come with the computer. Do you have the latest drivers? Do you have the latest service packs installed?

It's a synaptics touchpad mouse, pretty std. for most laptops these days.
I have searched the HP, Microsoft and the synaptics sites hoping for a driver or update to no avail.

You may want to try a ps/2 or USB mouse, and see if the same problem occurs. If not then its possible you may have a damaged touchpad.

Laptop mouse malfunctioning

I have a DGI laptop & the mouse moves when ever it wants!! Is there any way I can repair this problem.

Sorry if this isn't the place to post a new question. I'm new to the forum & didn't see how to post a new problem.

You should post this in a new thread. I would post it under laptops. Describe the problem in detail. Inslude full system specs. CPU, RAM, OS etc.

Thank you, after posting I discovered how to start a new thread. I neglected to post the information that you suggested. I will try to edit my post once I find the needed information to post.

Thanx
