ram
ok heres the deal. i have a HP Compaq nx9005 with the product number
DH905A. it has 256 mb of ram and lets face it thats just not enough for the video editing i want to do. so i want to upgrade the ram right now i have 1 open slot for more ram. the hp website says that it only takes a certain kind of ram i believe its PC2100 DDR-266. so when i try to look for that i can't find it but conviently HP is selling a 256 mb upgrade for 212 dollars. for some reason that seems absolutely rediculus to pay over 200 dollars for only an additional 256 mb of ram. does anyone know where i can get this ram somewhere else for cheaper? or will the computer still run with something i buy off newegg.com or something? not sure how strick the compatibility is but with a pricetag of 212 bucks for a small amount of ram i wouldn't be surprised if its the only thing i can buy...which i refuse to do. so if anyone can help that would be great. |

Go here and put your notebook's info into Crucial's memory finder. And yeah, you'll be able to get it a lot cheaper than $200!
![]() Standard 256MB 200-pin PC2100 on Crucial's website is $46, 512MB for $95. I don't know if that HP/Compaq can take a 512MB stick, but I thought I'd throw it in there for comparison. ![]()

Wow saphalline!
Have you ever considered a job in sales? Made that sale in a matter of 20 minutes! BTW pf_flyer166....Yes, HP will try to "stick" it to you every time. If my "memory" serves me right. It's always crucial that you shop around! Sorry....Seem to be rambling a bit here. ![]() |

Anyway, that one was easy! When you're faced with being forced to spend $200+, $50 is a "snatch-up" price! ![]() I hate that kind of proprietary pricing, tho. Really steams me up how HP and others can charge that much and get away with it! Same with retail stores like Best Buy - their RAM prices are simply outrageous! Price of having retail inventory, I suppose, but I think if I actually had to work there I would be picketing down the isles! "Shop online! Newegg.com and Crucial.com!" Hehe.Of course, they do have some good deals every now and then. Budfred is always on his rebate crusade. Definitely some deals to be had there, but learning how to not get burned is just as difficult. Judging from the many posts on that subject, it sounds like certain items are fine while others (canned air anyone?) are not. About 6 months back, retail stores also had the best prices on SDRAM, but now they all suck! Boy oh boy, gotten to the point now where you better have a DDR system or you're just plain out of luck!

Hey anyone herard of 4allmemory.com They seem to have some of the best prices I have seen. I found 256 sd for my dell notebook for $88.99 compared to crucial for $109.99
they also offer free S&H I did find 512 ddr at crucial for $80.99 compared to $84.99 at 4allmemory. But crucial didn't have my model listed in their memory finder. Didn't notice if crucial has free S&H. |

Thanks Budfred. I am getting ready to order a stick or two this weekend and I will definitly take the ratings into consideration. Do you think the ratings are low becuase of bad product or just a less known company.

That is hard to say, but I think for the Crucial ratings to be so high with a high number of responses, they must have provided good service for a long time. The other company either hasn't been around long or it has simply displeased the 11 people that responded to score that low. Also, those are not miserable ratings, I have seen worse. However, I am very careful about who I order from online because I have gotten miserable service and SPAM because of using crummy companies. I would rather pay a bit more to order from a company I trust than go through hassles with a company that might mess around with me....
