Compaq Presario 1230 Laptop

Hi all,

I just reinstalled Win98 on Compaq 1230 notebook and am locked into two color settings (2,16). I forgot to look at the settings and type of VGA card in it.

Is there any way to get all the color settings up?

On the same laptop, during installation, it could not detect the cdrom drive. Is it from my bootdisk?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

What is listed as display in Control Panel, System, Device Manager? Maybe the name of your video card will show up there so you can download a driver for it.

While in Device Manager, are there any items with yellow exclamation points or red Xs showing?

Do you have the original restore cd? This page shows how to restore drivers and find the names of your hardware if you do.

Have you tried Windows Update to see if any drivers are there?

I quickly checked for your model at Compaq (HP) support here but couldn't find a display or cdrom driver listed. You might want to do more intensive search of the site.

Hopefully others will have more suggestions.
