DVD region code

Just installed a new Pioneer IDE Internal DVD 105 S 16xRom ... Paid $109 for it oem from a local dealer (San Diego) and he said it didn't require a driver. Took it home and replaced my Sony 48 X CD Rom and it worked right off the bat, but no DVD, just CD. Error message is that the region code doesn't match the DVD. I thought it was the Ati software DVD multimedia player. So re-installed it and clicked region one, but still no DVD. Contacted Pioneer and they said that I have to set the drive to region one, but I don't know how to do that. I downloaded a utillity from them, but it is hard to understand. I unzipped it, but it just sits there, because I don't have a driver in the first place, which everyone says I don't need. Should I get a Magic DVD decoder next payday or what?

If your system is at least a 450 Pentium 2, then you should be ok without a decoder card...this may be a dumb suggestion, but I recently used dvd software on a computer and had the same sort of problem...check to see if there is an "apply" or "change" button somewhere on the screen after you select the region...

A decoder card will not solve your problem though...

I've recently also bought the Pioneer DVD-105S drive. I noticed on Pioneer's website they have a utility that will change the region code (back) to 1. I have not tried it and do find other utilities there a bit cryptic but here's the link: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...7,1368,00.html

I have a question to you DVD dudes/dudesses. I'm using the ASUS V3800 TNT2 Ultra video card with this drive and I can't for the life of me figure out how I can play DVD movies on my system. I'm running Windows 98 2nd Ed. I have no problems reading Audio CDs or seeing the folders/files on the DVD movies. From what I understand I require a MPEG-2 decoder and/or player ? Do I have to purchase more hardware or software ? I'm running a Celeron 700mhz processor, 128mb ram.

Shebear have you installed the DVD software you got with your videocard. If so try re-installing the DVD software.

I have the Creative labs DVD 12x encore It came with a Decoder card.
But I do not need it as the Video card (Asus V7700) can handle it.
Check your manual that came with the Video card to see if it will
handle the DVD playback. you may just need to put the DVD software on your machine it would have come with your Card.

Thanks for the reply Blazer ... The ASUS V3800 card I have is an OEM version and did not come with any manuals or software. I will attempt to track some down from ASUS site. Any links anyone ???

I thought I have the same problem that u did before I bought my Pioneer DVD rom player. But after I installed the software "Cyberlink PowerDVD"
then all my problems were gone. The newest version 2.55 accepts all region.
