Unhappy format

hi
i used to format my pc by starting my pc with the boot floppy
and typing : format c:
but now evrytime i try formating my pc
and typing format c:
i get :ur drive does not support format
format terminated
i dont know why
can u plz help me fix that prob

Hmmmm,
Guess we could use a little more info here
Is this the same hard drive as before?
Are you using the same boot disk?
Have you tried another boot disk?
Are you sure you are starting from the A: prompt?

Let us know and we can go from there

If this was a working drive, go to the manufacturer's website and download their drive installation software, run it and completely repartition it, then format should work.

Hello w2wlord

This happened on my son's PC when a shop re-partitioned his drive with a program other than "fdisk". I figured that the drive could then only be re-formatted using the same program, so I re-partitioned using using "fdisk" and that fixed it.

You cannot format a drive that you are reading from. You would need to type Format C: from the A: prompt.
