Deals on the Intel Core Ultra line-up are great for that reason, as you’ll need a new compatible motherboard, as these CPUs are built on the LGA 1851 socket. The good news there is that this gives you access to all the latest tech, including DDR5 RAM, PCIe 5.0 storage, and more.

What we like about the Intel Core Ultra 9 285
We reviewed the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K back in October 2024, and gave it 4-stars, which is only slightly different to the 285 non-K version, in the sense that its overclockable and draws a little more power because it has higher clock frequencies. In anycase, it can give you a good idea of what to expect from the Ultra 9 285.
We noted that even with a slightly cut-back thread count, it exceled at multi-core performance. When it comes to single-core performance, it does very well, but does fall slightly behind the Intel 14900K. The Ultra 9 285 is also very efficient and can keep cool under heavy loads with ease.
Overall, it’s a great cpu for a wide range of purposes, and it’s definitely tailored to those wanting the absolute top-end, latest tech in their PC builds. There are some punchier options for gaming, like the 14th Gen Intel series, however, if you want to jump onto the latest platform, and stick with Intel, this is a good option for you.
