What we like about this ASUS TUF Gaming 4K monitor

A great size for 4K and super versatile

This monitor comes in at 27 inches, which is great for 4K resolution, as it makes it look super sharp and crisp. It’s also a much more versatile size than 32 inches when it comes to gaming, especially if you’re playing more competitively. That’s because a larger monitor size can put you at a disadvantage, as it makes opponents more difficult to spot and react to.

Good color and brightness for the price

Many monitors that are more affordable tend to be fairly dim, coming in at 250 nits in most cases, which, from experience, isn’t great in well-lit environments. This monitor is 300 nits, which is a good level of brightness for both well-lit rooms and enhancing color and contrast. It’s also got pretty good color, too, and can reproduce 95% of the DCI-P3 color range. That’s the minimum you’d want for creative work, if you’re doing it professionally. On top of that, it also features an anti-glare coating to reduce distracting reflections.

HDR support

Not every 4K monitor has HDR support, and this can make blacks look very grey, which isn’t great. This monitor has HDR10 support, which means it can receive and process HDR10 signals. In short, while it’s not going to boast the most impressive HDR in the world, it’s still able to display a wide range of colors and achieve good levels of contrast, which ultimately result in more lifelike images.

Good for high fps gaming

This monitor features a 160Hz refresh rate when used with a PC, which is high for a 4K monitor, and will easily allow for over 100fps gaming at high resolutions. You’ve also got AMD FreeSync Premium, which means that this monitor can sync its refresh rate to your GPU’s framerate, resulting in less screen tearing and stuttering. Its 1ms response time is also a win, although quite standard for a 4K gaming monitor. This will help reduce ghosting, afterimages, and blur, which is great for overall smoothness, but also helps you track moving objects on screen better.

Who’s this deal for?

This monitor is excellent for anyone who wants 4K for under $300, in short. It would pair well with a wide range of gaming PC setups, too, but we’d say if you’ve got a higher-end 4K-ready build, then you’ll want to lean towards some of the mini-LED or QD-OLED options instead, as these will have high refresh rates and better HDR performance. That being said, though, for a cost-effective 4K setup, this is a great way to go that doesn’t completely break the bank.
