Black Friday may be just around the corner, but we’re already spotting some great deals rolling in early. This LG Ultragear monitor is down a massive 41%, reduced from $449.99 to $266.99, and now at its lowest price ever. It features a very high 300Hz refresh rate, QHD resolution, AMD FreeSync Premium, and a super sleek design that’s ideal for both gaming and professional setups. For the price, we think it’s very appealing for those who primarily want to game at high framerates in QHD. That being said, it’s also appropriate for creatives, especially video editors, who need something with a wide color range for accurate editing and design.

Reasons to Buy
  • Rapid 300Hz refresh rate
  • AMD FreeSync Premium
  • 95% DCI-P3 color
  • Minimal design, with fully adjustable stand

Reasons to Avoid
  • ‘Only’ AMD FreeSync Premium, not Premium Pro, so not as capable for HDR content

  • USB-C charging fairly lacklustre at 15W
  • No RGB in sight, which isn’t for everyone

Key features of this LG Ultragear QHD gaming monitor

Very high refresh rate and ideal for fast-paced gaming

This monitor has a 300Hz refresh rate, allowing for up to around 300fps at QHD, alongside a low 1ms response time, which will dramatically reduce ghosting or afterimages with fast on-screen motion. That’s ideal for competitive gaming, as it aids in tracking opponents across the screen, and it also ensures everything looks super smooth and fluid. It also features AMD FreeSync Premium, which further reduces screen tearing and stuttering by syncing this monitor’s refresh rate to your GPU’s framerate.

The ideal size for QHD

27 inches is one of the best sizes you can get to make the most out of 1440p resolution, and it also makes the most sense as it means you can get clear picture quality, but without spending more for a 4K display or on a build that’s capable of handling 4K resolution, too. What’s more, 27 inches is also not too big that it puts you at a competitive disadvantage when playing first-person shooters, and not too small that it becomes somewhat lacklustre for playing anything immersive, or watching content.

Excellent color for the price

If you’re looking for something to showcase your games in vivid color and a monitor that can be used for professional creative work, then this is a great option to go for, especially for the money. It features 95% DCI-P3 color, which is the standard for digital cinema, designed to offer a more lifelike color spectrum than your standard sRGB. 95% coverage is excellent for video editing, in particular, especially when working with HDR.

Minimal design

This monitor is one of LG’s less bombastic designed options and wouldn’t look out of place in more professional settings, even though it’s a powerhouse for high fps gaming. Its stand is fully adjustable and can pivot, tilt, and swivel, in addition to changing height. It also features a smaller footbase to free up desk space and has a USB-C connection with 15W power delivery, which allows you to connect devices for data transfer and charging.

Considerations before you buy

Overall, this is an excellent QHD gaming monitor that leans more towards high refresh rate gaming over top-tier picture quality, and that’s reflected in the price as it’s significantly cheaper than some of your QD-OLED models. If you’re primarily using your gaming PC for high fps gaming, then this is a very good option to go for; however, for those looking for something to showcase graphically demanding games at their very best, I’d say you’re better off upping your budget and going for a lower refresh rate QD-OLED monitor instead. These typically come in at around $500 to $600, but are well worth it, and often feature higher DCI-P3 color coverage, too, making them excellent for designers.

Pricing history

Via camelcamelcamel

As you can see, this monitor is at its lowest ever price on Amazon, and the recent price drop has been quite significant, since it’s been close to full price for most of late October to November. We’d say that this is likely going to be the lowest it will be for the month, but it may drop again by a small amount in the Black Friday sales. Based on this pricing history, we’d say it’s a genuinely good deal to jump on, but there may not be a need to rush, as we think it’s very unlikely it’ll snap back up to full price anytime soon.
