AMD’s massively popular Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a generous price cut this Prime Day
Table of Contents
While tracking down the best Prime Day CPU deals, we noticed that the massively popular AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D doesn’t have a discount in the U.S. right now. For those of you on the other side of the pond, however, you’ll be glad to know that the best gaming CPU on the market has a price slash. PC builders in the UK can grab the 9800X3D for under £400 this Prime Day.
The full retail price for the 9800X3D in the UK is £449.99, so the current 11% discount slashes the price down to just £399.95. Now that Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days is live this October 7th and 8th, now’s the perfect opportunity to pick up the X3D chip. In terms of the 9000X3D range, there’s also the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D, but neither of these are on sale right now.

Why you should pick the 9800X3D this Prime Day
Anyone in the UK looking to upgrading their gaming PC with a healthy budget should probably look into the 9800X3D. It’s highly rated for good reason, with the performance to back it up (you can see our in-house benchmarks down below).
3D V-Cache is ideal for gaming
The 3D at the end of this CPU’s name refers to the stacked V-Cache. With 96GB of L3 cache, that means the 9800X3D can store more memory at any given time. This is aimed at improving performance for gaming in particularly, helping cut down memory latency, improving framerates, and perhaps most notably, minimizing stuttering. The 1% lows on X3D processors are one of the biggest benefits; in other words, the framerate is more consistently high. You can read about the technology in depth on AMD’s website.
It’s overclockable
Unlike its predecessors, the 7800X3D and 5800X3D, the latest-gen 9800X3D can actually be overclocked. This was one of the most exciting aspects of the processors, which can be attributed to a design change. AMD moved the 3D V-Cache to the underside of the CPU cores, rather than on top, providing more thermal headroom to safely unlock it for overclocking. This is a nice feature for enthusiasts, but if you’re a regular user, you won’t be disappointed by the performance anyway.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D performance benchmarks
We ran the chip through our testing lab to see just how good it was. Unsurprisingly, with all that extra cache, the 9800X3D is a beast for gaming. We tested it in two very different titles: Counter-Strike 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. We even noticed that it gave us 60 extra FPS in CS2 with PBO and Game Mode enabled; these are two BIOS settings aimed at boosting performance.

More CPU deals this Prime Day
Below is a collection of more great Prime Day CPU deals this October. Remember, the event is only available to Amazon Prime members and is taking place on October 7th and 8th – that’s not a lot of time to secure these discounts. Thankfully the 9800X3D on Amazon UK isn’t tagged as a ‘Prime Big Deal’ so it avoids those restrictions, but we can’t be sure how long the offer will last.
While the 9800X3D isn’t discounted on Amazon U.S., at least the 7800X3D is.
