What we like about this Acer Nitro gaming monitor
Good for high frame rate gaming
This monitor has a 180Hz refresh rate, with a 0.5ms response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium, which, when combined, will greatly improve the overall smoothness of onscreen movement. The refresh rate here makes it appropriate for most lower to mid-range setups, as you’re not paying extra for say, 240Hz or 360Hz, which would only really be usable with more mid-to-high end graphics cards at 1440p. That being said, it’s still more than enough for most people, even those playing competitively.
QHD at 27-inches
Commonly thought of as the ‘sweet spot’ when it comes to monitors. Firstly, this size can make the most out of 1440p resolution, making it appear sharp without the need to pay extra for 4K. On top of that, it’s also sized to be ideal for a number of different types of gaming. It’s not too big that it’ll create a disadvantage when gaming competitively, but it’s also not too small that you can’t use it for immersive titles or watching content, too.
Good color and decent brightness
This monitor has 95% DCI-P3 color, which essentially means it has a much wider color range than your standard sRGB monitor. That’s great for gaming, as everything looks more vibrant and lifelike, but it’s especially good if you’re using this monitor for creative work, such as video editing or other types of content creation. When it comes to brightness, it’s about the level you’d expect from a more affordable monitor, which is 250nits. This is decent and will be bright enough for most people, although it may struggle a bit in a well-lit room. For most people, it’ll be fine, though.
Who’s this deal for?
Coming in at $159.99, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here, and this is a great option to go for to pair with a PC that’s capable of 1440p at higher frame rates. Of course, if you throw down some more cash, you’ll start coming across higher refresh rates, different panel types, and even higher levels of FreeSync, but we’d only really say those would be good for people who have PCs that can make the most out of them. If you lean more into competitive PC gaming, then this would be a great monitor to go for, at a very appealing price point.
