VPNs are vital to browsing the web these days, offering protections and also just generally allowing you to access geo-blocked content however you see fit. There’s a whole host to choose from and PC Guide is here to ensure you not only get the best deal but the best of the best.

We’ve reviewed a VPN previously, the Nord VPN – which you might have seen around YouTube videos – which we highly recommended. However, on Cyber Monday, they all come out with cracking deals and it can be a bit confusing to sift through them.

What is a VPN?

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, which effectively takes your outgoing connection, funnels it elsewhere, and then to the intended destination. This helps cover your tracks, but also often ‘tricks’ the destination – Netflix for example – that you belong to the destination you requested. For example, I want to watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi on Netflix, but it’s only available in the US, so I change my VPN settings to convert my outgoing web traffic to a US server, which then pings to Netflix as if I were logged in abroad.

This works with all manner of apps and programs, freeing yourself from the new, slightly locked-off internet.

VPNs work on a subscription fee, but on Cyber Monday, this usually means that a yearly subscription is often cut down so far that you’d be losing out by not hopping onto the bandwagon.
