Highly-rated mid-range MSI RTX 4070, QHD laptop gets a decent price cut on Amazon

One of MSI’s top RTX 40-series laptops is curently 14% off on Amazon, bringing its price down from $1,699.99 to $1,459.49. This laptop packs the still-impressive RTX 4070 mobile, which is a great card for high-end 1440p gaming, an excellent Ryzen 9 processor, and an impressive QHD, 165Hz screen. For the price, you’re getting a fair bit of bang-for-your-buck, and we think it’s a good option to check out while it’s still reduced, if you want something great for gaming on the go.

What we like about this MSI Katana laptop
RTX 4070 mobile GPU
The RTX 4070 mobile is a very good laptop GPU for 1440p gaming, and offers a good performance increase from the last generation. It features 4608 cores, 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a 128-bit bus width, making it a much more powerful option than the likes of the RTX 4050, which is usually found in options under $1,000 nowadays, and really only capable of 1080p at medium to high settings.
Ryzen 9-8945HS processor
This Ryzen 9 processor features 8 cores, 16 threads, a 5.2 boost clock, and 16MB L3 cache. It’s a good processor for gaming in some respects, but could do with a larger L3 cache in our view to reduce frame latency at higher fps. That being said, its high boost clock speed and decent-sized core and thread count should prove useful in both more demanding gaming scenarios, as well as the occasional heavier-duty multitasking, too.
Excellent display
You’ve got a QHD screen here with a high 165Hz refresh rate, sized to 15.6 inches. That’s a great combo for top-tier picture clarity, as well as high fps gaming.
Loads of RAM
This build comes with 32GB of newer, faster DDR5 RAM, which is going to come in handy if you’re running loads of applications at the same time, or playing open-world games with large asset libraries.
Decent-sized SSD
You’ve got a 1TB SSD here, which we’d say is more than enough for a laptop if you’re planning on playing a few games on rotation. For hybrid usage, like video idting, we’d recommend going for something larger, as it will fill up quickly with both 4K video and game being stored at the same time.
Who’s this deal for?
While the RTX 50-series laptops may appeal, they’re a fair bit more expensive, even when reduced, especially RTX 5070 options. For most people, the RTX 4070 still offers a good level of performance for the price, and we think this laptop ticks all the boxes if you’re looking for something to game on the go with, in 1440p, that also has a good screen.
