It’s a good time to save on one of AMD’s top CPUs for multi-core performance
Table of Contents
The Ryzen 9 9950X is a brilliant processor for high-end gaming and productivity builds, but it’s pretty expensive at full price. Luckily, since the start of 2025 we’ve seen it tumbling down in price, and it looks like this month is a good month to buy it.
Compared to its list price of $649.00, this CPU is significantly less right now, coming in at $520.29, and only a few dollars off its lowest price ever on Amazon. We think it’s a great time to buy it, and considering what this processor brings to the table, it’s a great price too.

What we like about the Ryzen 9 9950X
The Ryzen 9 9950X released in August 2024 and seriously impressed us when we put it through its paces in our testing. In our review, it stood out for its strong multi-core performance, but at the time we found it pretty expensive, even though it is a flagship model.
While X3D alternatives would be a better choice for gaming as expected, this processor is ideal for those who are video-editors, content creators, or those who are dealing with very heavy-duty workloads. Be warned though, this CPU generates a tonne of heat, so you’ll need a powerful cooler. Check out our top picks here for options.
- Core CPU specs: 16 cores, 32 threads, 5.7 GHz boost clock, 170W TDP, and a 64MB L3 cache.
- Great for multi-tasking: As you can see it’s an absolute beast of a CPU that will excel at multi-core usage.
- AM5 platform: Build on the AM5 socket, this CPU can be paired with DDR5 RAM and Gen5 NVMe SSDs given the right motherboard.
- Still good for gaming: X3D models will be better, but thanks to the high boost clock and large L3 cache, this CPU is still a decent option.
Is it the best time to buy?
So this is the big question here. As you can see from the graph above, this CPU has been decreasing quite steadily in price since the start of 2025, but it looks like June has seen it hit its lowest prices relatively speaking, While it has been lower at $517.00, we’re really only talking a few dollars difference here, making now a very good time to purchase this CPU.
Back in May we did see a number of CPUs drop to seriously low prices, and that may happen again in some of the major sales events, such as Prime Day. I’m predicting, based on these trends and my own experience, that we won’t see enough of a significant price drop for this processor in the near future, and certainly not one to hold off purchasing this for.
