Holding out for an iPad Pro 2022 release? The release date information isn’t confirmed yet, unfortunately. But we can estimate when a new iteration may arrive.

While Apple keeps a regular rhythm when it comes to the likes of iOS and the iPhone range of products, iPads are less like clockwork in their release schedules.

iPad Pro 2022 expected release date

Though we can’t be sure, we expect the iPad Pro 2022 release date to be in either October or November.

Given that the standard iPad 2022 is due for release this year, collective wisdom suggests the iPad Pro 2022 will be available after the release of the standard iPad 2022 model.

In previous years, Apple’s standard iPads were unveiled in mid-September, and releasing later the same month. This year that could mean an unveiling around the same time as the iPhone 14, with a release shortly after.

However, the 2021 iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch models were released in May.

It seems unlikely we’ll have another eight-month wait though, due to a clue from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman stated he expected a big update for the iPad Pro range in Fall. That suggests the iPad Pro 2022 release date will be after the standard iPad and iPhone 14 + iOS 16 announcements.

We’d expect the update to be unveiled and released in either October or November.

That would see Apple tighten its release schedule too. That would be good for users looking to choose between the standard and Pro variants.

iPad Pro 2022 expected price

Price is another moving target for the iPad Pro range, as the release pricing of the most recent 12.9-inch iPad Pro model was $1,099.

Meanwhile, the most recent iPad Pro 11-inch model arrived at a price of $799. That’s a price consistent with previous iterations.

Taking into consideration the higher cost of silicon and logistics in previous years due to the pandemic, you may expect a lower price of $999 for the 12.9-inch.

We feel that’s unlikely though. We expect the iPad Pro 2022 price to be $799 at the 11-inch model, and £1,099 for the 12.9-inch.

iPad Pro 2022 expected design

As you’ll have guessed, we’re expecting there to be both an 11-inch and 12.9-inch model for the iPad Pro 2022 release.

There’s no obvious reason to change this since the two effectively cater to users at differing prices. There could be an additional option though, should Majin Bu be correct. Bu has suggested a 14.1-inch iPad Pro could be in the works, although it’s unconfirmed.

Renders produced by the Chinese site MyDrivers previously suggested the 2022 iPad Pros could feature some aesthetic changes. But none as dramatic as an all-new model variant.

The MyDrivers renders had suggested iPad Pro variants could feature a camera notch. That in turn would make for thinner bezels (and could look pretty swish).

However, a more recent report from 9to5mac has that the notch design was being experimented with but may not appear in this year’s models.

The second aesthetic change suggested by the MyDrivers renders was a rear camera array more in line with Apple’s iPhone pro models. Again, this is unconfirmed.

Finally, came the suggestion that the iPad Pro models will feature LTPO displays, making use of dual-layered OLED tech and supporting 120Hz refresh rates.

iPad Pro 2022 expected specs

Like design and price, we won’t know about the full specs until we have confirmed iPad Pro 2022 release date.

However, it seems most likely that the latest iPad Pro variants will feature the M2 chip, revealed at this year’s WWDC event. Whether that may be a standard inclusion, or for one specific model, we are yet to find out.

The M2 already features in the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro 2022 models. So fitting it in an iPad Pro released this year would bring potential performance closer to Macbook levels for those willing to pay for it. Even if the use-cases are somewhat distinct.

Finally, in terms of camera setup, 9to5mac suggests new iPad Pros could feature similar-to iPhone 13 camera specs – including the much-loved Cinematic mode.

For charging, rumors suggest the inclusion of wireless charging could await us with the unveiling and release of 2022’s iPad Pros.

Can’t wait? There’s the iPad Air 2022

If you can’t wait for the iPad Pro 2022 release, there is a new model option already available this year.

The iPad Air 2022 was released on 18th March 2022 and may suit those with slimmer budgets, or who prefer lighter tech – it’s a safe bet the iPad Pro 2022 will be heavier and thicker.

Featuring new color options, the iPad Air 2022 even offers Apple’s impressive M1 chip (not the iPhone 13’s A15 bionic as many assumed). Plus, it offers 5G connectivity, a new front-facing ultra-wide 12MP camera with AI-powered Cente Stage tech, and a USB-C port now twice as fast at transferring data.

The iPad Air 2022 is Priced from around $599 / £569 for the 64GB model, up to $749 / £719 for the 256GB model. It’s available direct from Apple (US / UK), or from retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.
