What we like about the Ryzen 5 9600X

The Ryzen 5 9600X released back in mid-2024 and followed up the the popular Ryzen 5 7600X. We reviewed the 5 9600X and were impressed with its cost to performance offering, alongside its overall efficiency.

This processor is a good mid-range option for those looking to save some cash on a new PC build, but also get something that’s compatible with with some of the latest motherboards and everything they bring to the table, like PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 RAM for instance.

Core CPU specs: You’re getting 6 cores, 12 threads, a 5.4 GHz max boost, 38 MB cache and 65W TDP here.
Future facing: It’s an AM5 socket CPU, which means with the right motherboard you can pair it with everything from Gen 5 NVMe SSDs to DDR5 RAM.
Cost effective: Coming it at just over $200, this is around $150 cheaper than the likes of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but still offers good gaming performance.

Is it the best time to buy this CPU?

As you can see from the graph above, this CPU has been lower in price before, dipping to $185, however this seemed to happen in a period when Amazon discounted a wide range of processors from both AMD and Intel. I’d say now is still a good time to buy this CPU, as it’s still at one of its lowest prices ever.
