Currently $500 off, this monitor has crashed from $1,899.99 to a much more appealing $1,399.99…and it looks like Samsung has pulled the trigger well ahead of the Amazon Spring Sales too.

SAMSUNG 49-Inch Odyssey G9 (G95SD) Series QD-OLED G-Sync Compatible
Key features and highlights of the Odyssey G9 monitor
- QD-OLED with dual QHD clarity: The QD-OLED from Samsung, with a resolution of Dual QHD (5120 x 1440), promises pure blacks, brilliant color, and stunning detail. The 32:9 ultra-wide form factor is ideal for that truly immersive experience with AAA gaming or multitasking.
- 0.03ms response time & 240Hz refresh rate: It is all about speed with the 0.03ms response time, ensuring virtually no input lag, which is direly needed in high-speed games. The combination of 240Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 1.4 gives smooth and clear motion with no blurring.
- Glare-free screen: Glare-Free technology prevents reflections from traditional OLEDs, so deep blacks and rich colors are preserved even in bright rooms.
- Smart thermal management: The Samsung Adaptive Brightness Control is used to control heat within the unit to prevent burn-in, while maintaining an even brightness throughout use-this is a boon in long gaming use or tiring work hours.
- G-Sync & FreeSync Premium Pro: G-Sync and Free Sync Premium Pro deliver ultra-smooth gameplay and eliminate screen tearing and stuttering on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs alike.
- Smart features & lighting: CoreSync & Core Lighting sync colors on screen with your setup for more immersive experiences; the Gaming Hub gives instant access to cloud gaming, while SmartThings integration helps manage your smart home devices.
Should you go for it?
So I’ve been writing about monitors for years now, and I think that Samsung ultrawides (and LG/ Alienware) are some of the top picks for gaming. Pricing-wise, it’s not uncommon to see these around $2000 when they release, but they almost always seem to get big discounts. In fact, I could almost guarantee you that LG, ASUS ROG, and Alienware will have some very ‘competitively priced’ alternatives around this time too.
But that being said, having an gaming monitor of this calibre for circa $1400 is a bit of win in our eyes. Is it likely to fall lower in the Spring Sales…honestly, I wouldn’t think by much based on my experience – however, prove me wrong Samsung…prove me wrong!
It’s worth saying also that this monitor isn’t for everyone. It’s huge…massive even and needs to be in the right space and ideally you need to get your money’s worth. If you’re big into gaming (especially racing games if you have a rig) I’d say this is the one for you. If you’re more casual, game every now and again, I’d say you’re better off with an older Samsung Odyssey model instead – they will be much cheaper and you can probably get a mini-LED display too.
