RX 7900 XT performance
In this section, we’ll go over the gaming and synthetic performance that the RX 7900 XT showcased during our in-house testing. This should paint a clear picture of what to expect from this card regardless of whether your workflow primarily consists of work or gaming.
Gaming performance
We ran a handful of games at 1440p and 4K and this graphics card managed to easily deliver 60+ FPS in all titles except one natively. In Cyberpunk 2077, we got 62 FPS while in less demanding titles like Counter-Strike the FPS was a much higher 313.
Fortnite was the only title which ran with 42 FPS but besdies that, we got 90, 195, and 160 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Doom Eternal, and Overwatch 2. On the other hand, rendering 2K frames wasn’t a challenge for this card, given its 4K performance and it managed 119, 555, 79, 145, 349, and 291 in all the mentioned titles, respectively.

Synthetic performance
To gauge the synthetic performance, we ran the full suite of 3DMark software, which included Fire Strike Ultra, Time Spy Extreme, and Port Royal. The first two test are resposible for seeing how well a GPU handles 4K rendering but there is a difference between them. Fire Strike Ultra uses the DX11 API while Time Spy Extreme uses DX12, making the latter more demanding for the card.
Port Royal tests the real-time ray tracing output and that is a domain where this GPU fell a bit behind its competition. In Fire Stirke Ultra and Time Spy Extreme, we got 17,137 and 12,385 points, respectively. In Port Royal, it delivered 13,237 points, which is good but isn’t the best. However, this changed considerably with the RX 9070 XT, so we recommed you check that out as well.

Is this deal worth it?
While the RX 9070 XT might be getting all the attention nowadays, we can’t deny that the RX 7900 XT is still a viable option and should remains that way for a good couple of years. It has 20GB GDDR6 VRAM, which is great for gamers and professionals and you won’t have to deal with running out of memory while playing at higher resolutions.
