Standout features of this Hisense U8 55-inch mini-LED TV
Mini-LED display for exceptional brightness, color, and control
This TV has an impressive mini-LED display with an incredibly high peak brightness of 5000 nits and 5600 local dimming zones. What this means is that you’ll get very bright highlights in smaller areas of the screen, with pinpoint contrast and color for more lifelike picture quality.
4K resolution on a 55-inch screen for stunning, detailed picture quality
You’ve got 4K resolution on a small-ish screen here, which results in extremely crisp picture quality as it keeps pixel density incredibly high. What’s more, it’s also small enough to fit easily into most rooms without completely dominating the space, and if you’re sitting a bit closer to the screen, it’s going to still deliver when it comes to immersion, too.

165Hz refresh rate for high fps, smooth gameplay
This TV boasts a very high 165Hz native refresh rate, which allows for up to 165fps at 4K. That’s going to be excellent if you plan on pairing this TV with either a high-end console or gaming PC, as it’s almost akin to a monitor used for fast-paced gaming.
AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and gaming features for a gaming monitor-like performance
FreeSync Premium Pro is the top dog when it comes to enhancing gaming performance, and, alongside its anti-screen-tearing capabilities, it also includes low-framerate compensation and technology that makes HDR gaming smoother. It’s outstanding if you’re playing immersive games at max settings, with HDR switched on, and want everything to run without stutter or lag. It also features ALLM and Low Latency MEMC, which reduce input lag, making everything feel more responsive.
Anti-reflection Pro to eliminate distracting glare
This TV has a special coating that reduces glare and reflections, making it brilliant for use in well-lit rooms, especially when combined with high peak brightness.
Hi-View AI Engine Pro for advanced picture and audio enhancement
Hisense’s processor in this TV can automatically optimize picture and audio quality on the fly, making the most out of whatever you’re watching. That can be anything from upscaling lower resolution content to near 4K quality, making on-screen movement look smoother, or even making SDR content look like HDR.
Alternatives to consider
Mini-LED TVs have come a long way and are very impressive options, but they can get a bit of haloing due to their more traditional backlit setup. An OLED TV could be worth considering if you’re looking for better, sharper contrast, but they are a touch more expensive. I’d suggest looking at this LG B5 Series 55-inch TV as an alternative if you’re looking for something OLED, with excellent gaming features, and an impressive processor for under $1000. I’d say that this would be a very valid option to go for, but I’d suggest using this in a lower light environment, as even some of the best OLED TVs tend to be dimmer than your typical mini-LED TVs.
