What we like about this Alienware gaming monitor
Great-looking and intelligently designed
With Alienware products, it’s more than just performance. They are probably some of the most aesthetically appealing options you can get, and are instantly recognizable thanks to their excellent build quality and clever design features. Even with this more value-friendly monitor, you’ve got a smaller footbase for increased desk space, some built-in cable management in the stand itself, and super thin bezels, which give it a more premium look at feel.
High refresh rate, but not overkill
Coming in at 180Hz at QHD resolution, this monitor is going to allow for up to 180fps gaming, which means it can be paired with some of the more affordable graphics cards for 1440p. For those of you who have a PC build that features a solid card for QHD gaming that can get over 100fps in most cases, this is going to be a great monitor to go for, as it’ll give you enough headroom to upgrade in the future, but you won’t be paying a premium for a refresh rate designed with more powerful gaming PCs in mind.
AMD FreeSync
Quite standard, but good to see, as this will help reduce screen tearing by syncing the monitor’s refresh rate to the GPU’s frame rate. Good for those of you who are gaming at high fps, and especially for those who are playing competitively.
Ideal size
27 inches ticks all the boxes, in our view. It’s ideally sized for competitive gaming, without being so small that it detracts from immersion or makes watching content slightly underwhelming. It’s also the best size for 1440p, making it look crisp and clear, even without it being 4K. On top of that, it’s not going to completely dominate your desk space either.
Excellent color for the price
This monitor has 95% DCI-P3 color coverage and a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. The color coverage is great for the price, and just about falls into the same bracket as a monitor designed for creatives, although we wouldn’t say that’s this monitor’s primary usage. This color coverage will make games look fantastic and vibrant, though, which is always a good thing. As for the certification, that’s another good sign, and means that this monitor’s HDR, brightness, and color are all up there with the best.
Who’s this deal for?
Coming in at $189.98, this monitor is a very cost-effective and stylish addition to any 1440p setup, but we’d say it’s most appropriate for more value-conscious builds. We’d pair this with potentially something around the RTX 5070 12GB region, or an RTX 5060 Ti, potentially, to give you an idea. If your gaming PC is more towards the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB mark in terms of 1440p performance, we’d say you’re better off going for something that has a 240Hz refresh rate or above, which come in at around $500 when on sale.
