Premium LG 5K dual-mode mini-LED gaming monitor spotted back at its best price again on Amazon
Table of Contents
This showstopper LG 27-inch 5K gaming monitor is now back at its best price on Amazon, with a pretty solid $200 discount. Coming in at $999.99, this is a big investment, but one that’s premium to its core and designed for more than just gaming.
First off, it’s 5K, which is extremely sharp, but it’s also dual-mode. That means that it can switch resolutions and refresh rates, depending on what you’re using it for. In this case, it can go from 5K at 165Hz to QHD at 330Hz. Essentially, it gives you two monitors in one and makes it much more versatile.

In terms of picture quality, it’s an IPS mini-LED. It may not be OLED, but don’t get it twisted; these monitors have some advantages of their own. For one, they’re unbelievably bright, with this particular model being able to reach 1250 nits of peak brightness. It even meets the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 standard. To put that into perspective, most mid-range monitors tend to have a lower DisplayHDR 400 certification. This monitor has 9,126 LEDs, so you’re getting a load of dimming zones. More zones mean more precise picture quality, resulting in super crisp, lifelike visuals. A big win for gaming, design, and much more.

One feature that stands out from the crowd is its AI Upscaling2 technology, which can make content look closer to 5K, much in the same way your typical 4K TV would. There are also other genuinely useful features, like 90W USC-C connectivity and FreeSync Premium, and the whole design screams high-end, in a good way.
Who’s this monitor for?
5K monitors make the most sense, at least in my view, when they’re being used for design work, video editing, and anything that benefits from having super crisp picture quality. For gaming, they’re good, but it’s a tall order for even some of the top GPUs to handle 5K at playable frame rates. Personally, I think this monitor would suit someone who’s potentially a photographer or video editor, who also wants something speedy for high refresh rate QHD gaming.
Things to consider
This isn’t the only dual-resolution monitor out there, and LG does make a fair few of them. I’d recommend looking at 4K/FHD models, as these are more common, can be less expensive, and are arguably a little more practical for most people
- 5K is seriously sharp
- Dual-mode functionality adds a level of versatility
- Super sleek design
- 90W USB-C connectivity helps reduce cable clutter
- Very bright IPS mini-LED display
- Overkill for most setups
- Not OLED-level blacks
- It’s more of a hybrid productivity/gaming monitor, which is fine, but worth factoring in to your decision
