Punchy deal spotted on excellent mid-range laptop that’s great for FHD gaming

One of MSI’s best RTX 4070 gaming laptops has just hit its lowest price in 30 days on Amazon. The current deal knocks a solid $150.99 off its list price, bringing it down from $1,849.99 to more mid-range price-point of $1,699.00.
This laptop has a fair bit going for it, including a powerful GPU and CPU at its core, but scaling back in some areas to keep costs down all the while giving you everything you could want for FHD gaming at high settings.

What you need to know about this laptop
- Powerful mobile GPU: This comes with an RTX 4070 mobile, which performs very well at 1080p at high frames per second, in addition to working well with ray tracing also. It can also use DLSS 3 to increase frames at higher settings, which is ideal if you’re looking to get the most performance for your buck. It’s a common card used in most mid-range gaming laptops, and arguably the best option from a price to performance perspective.
- Top end CPU: The Intel Core i7-14650HX has 16 cores, 24 threads, and a max turbo frequency of 5.2 GHz. This is something that’s going to be great for gaming, but also excellent for multi-tasking and other multi-threaded functions. That could be anything from handling larger amounts of data, or video-editing and rendering.
- Fast, responsive screen: This screen has a 144hz refresh rate, which is just the right amount in my opinion and by no means overkill for the laptop’s hardware. It’s FHD+, which means its 16:10 aspect ratio. This gives you more pixels and a little more screen real-estate too.
- 1 TB SSD and 64GB RAM: Ample storage with the 1TB NVMe SSD which can house around 9 AAA titles, and a fair bit more non-AAA games. The RAM in this is actually DDR5, which will is the best you can get, and should help with overall responsiveness or handling various applications at the same time.
- Excellent port selection: HDMI 2.1, USB-C type 3.2 Gen 1, Display Port, and much more give you loads of connectivity options.
- Understated design: This features a tasteful amount of lighting and RGB, encased in a minimalistic chassis, making it a versatile choice for different working environments.
Is this laptop for you?
At this price-point, I’d say this laptop is an excellent choice for most people that gives you everything you would need, without having to overpay for potentially unnecessary extras.
For instance, with an RTX 4070 mobile, I’d like the option of a QHD display, but what’s the point if it’s going to cost me a lot more and if my mobile GPU is just ‘okay’ at 1440p. There’s also the fact that these screens are super small, so FHD looks great regardless. For something QHD, you’re likely going to be stuck with an 18-inch laptop, which instantly makes it less portable and more expensive.
If you find yourself on the move frequently and want something to unwind with, but also use for mid-heavy duty tasks, this is a great option for the price.
