Punchy Skytech RX 9070 XT 16GB gaming PC gets solid price cut at Newegg
Table of Contents
Over at Newegg, there’s a decent $200 off this Skytech Gaming Shadow prebuilt PC, which has knocked its price down from $1,999.99 to $1,799.99. For the price, this gaming PC really brings a lot the table, both in terms of performance and design. First off, it’s an eye-catching PC case with tempered glass panels giving you a clear view of its inner workings, much of which features aRGB lighting. On top of that, it’s got one of the best value graphics cards on the market, the RX 9070 XT, which trades blows with the RTX 5070 Ti despite being the more affordable option. The Ryzen CPU isn’t bad either, and a decent cost-effective alternative to some of the X3D models sometimes paired with the RX 9070 XT. Overall, a very good PC build for 1440p and 4K gaming that delivers exceptional value at its current price.
Skytech Gaming Shadow Desktop PC – AMD RX 9070 XT 16GB
Key features of this Skytech Gaming Shadow Desktop PC
Ryzen 7 9700X processor
The Ryzen 7 9700X is an excellent mid-range CPU, and a good pairing with something like the RX 9070 XT. It has your pretty standard core and thread count (8 and 16) which is similar to the likes of the popular Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It’s good for multitasking and multithreaded workloads, but it’s not the main ‘selling point’ here. This processor boasts a high 5.5GHz boost clock speed and relatively large 32MB L3 cache, making it a good option for gaming, especially considering the price point. It’s also far more efficient than its Zen 4 predessor, the 7700X. Read our full review for a deeper dive.
RX 9070 XT 16GB graphics card
This is widely seen as one of the best price-to-performance ratio graphics cards you can get for 1440p and 4K gaming. Comparible in terms of raw performance to the RTX 5070 Ti, the RX 9070 XT offers a more cost-effective choice for those who don’t mind missing out on some of the bells and whistles of the new 50-series and its Blackwell architecture. This card is built on RDNA 4, and boasts improved ray tracing and AI capbilities, plus FSR4 for an extra percieved framerate boost. Instead of GDDR7, it has GDDR6, but you’re getting 16GB of it, which is a fair amount considering the price. For benchmarks, check out our full review.
Storage and RAM
What’s good to see here is that this build has 32GB of DDR5 RAM, which is going to give you a load of headroom for more demanding multitasking, games, and running various RAM-intensive creative applications. It has a modest 1TB SSD, however, which is a great way of keeping build costs down, but may require a bit of clever storage management to keep it from filling up too quickly.
Things to consider
As mentioned, the closest alternative here would be the good old RTX 5070 Ti, and it’s worth weighing up your options, especially if your budget allows. In short, the RTX 5070 Ti pulls away a bit from the RX 9070 XT as it has 4th-gen ray tracing cores, 5th-gen tensor cores, and faster GDDR7 VRAM. Its MFG is also pretty impressive, as is its inclusion of 9th-gen Nvidia Encoders for better quality video, faster exporting, and more. For a more well-rounded, future-proof option, the 5070 Ti could take the win, but for purely gaming, the RX 9070 XT is hard to pass up at its more affordable price point.
