What we like about this Alienware gaming monitor
This monitor is all about high framerate, responsive gaming, and packs an impressive 360Hz refresh rate with a very low response time of 0.5ms. This combination is great if you’re playing competitively, as it allows for over 300fps, but its response time means that you’re not going to get much in the way of motion blur or ghosting. On top of that, it has AMD FreeSync, so it can sync its refresh rate to your GPU, eliminating screen tearing and increasing the overall fluidity of on-screen motion. In terms of picture quality, it’s FHD, which on a screen this small looks surprisingly crisp and clear, despite it not being 1440p or 4K. The size itself is excellent for preserving picture clarity at FHD, but it’s also designed to give you a competitive edge in games like first-person shooters, too. While color and contrast ratio aren’t exactly a main priority for this type of monitor, it is quite bright, coming in at 400cd/m2, which is more than your standard FHD monitor. That’s going to be good if you’re using it in a well-lit room or for daytime gaming sessions.
Considerations and alternatives
This is a great monitor for esports and competitive gaming, but it wouldn’t be our top choice if you’re looking for something for a variety of other uses, as well. As mentioned, color and contrast ratio, or HDR in general, aren’t the main priorities for even some of the best gaming monitors for competitive play. These are important; however, if you’re doing any creative work and need better color range and accuracy, or simply want to experience games and content at their most lifelike and realistic. If you want something that’s going to be very responsive, but also have excellent picture quality, we’d say your best bet would be a QD-OLED 1440p monitor at 27 inches. They’ll be closer to $500, but will be great for fast-paced gaming and have incredible color, contrast, and brightness, too.
