What we like about this ASUS TUF F16 gaming laptop
Great value mobile graphics card for FHD gaming
This laptop features an RTX 4050 mobile graphics card, which has 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and is designed with FHD/ FHD+ gaming in mind at high to ultra settings. For gaming laptops well under $900, the RTX 4050 is going to be one of your best bets, and it’s also quite capable for lighter to moderately demanding creative work, too.
Its Intel Core i5 210H processor is an excellent CPU for the price
This CPU features 8 cores, 12 threads, a 12MB Intel Smart Cache, and a boost clock of 4.8GHz. It’s essentially a CPU that’s going to give you everything you need for gaming and multitasking, but without being overkill for the RTX 4050’s capabilities. While it may not be a super hardcore option, it is super-appropriate for the price.
A high refresh rate screen is ideal for fast-paced gaming
Its screen is 144Hz, which makes it not only in line with what the RTX 4050 can achieve with fps, but also makes it great for fast-paced, competitive play, too. At FHD+, it’s also slightly bigger than your typical FHD display, giving you a bit more room to work with. It also looks great with its 90% screen to body ratio, too.
It features the latest RAM
While some of the components may be older, the RAM is some of the latest DDR5. Coming in at 8GB, this is enough for moe casual FHD gaming usage, and should keep gameplay looking smooth and fluid. It’s also good for handling some creative tasks, like video editing, which can slow down your system when working on more complex projects.
It’s designed to be ultra-durable
This laptop is built with military-grade materials and boasts superior durability to your standard options. This means it’s ideal for slinging in your bag and taking on the go, without worrying about knocks and bumps causing major issues.
Decent cooling system for a budget-friendly model
ASUS hasn’t skimped on the cooling here, as this laptop features a fairly robust thermal offering, including multiple exhaust vents, heat pipes, and 84-Blade Arc Flow fans to keep everything working at its best, even under heavy and sustained loads.
Things to consider
In short, RTX 5050 laptops are going to be superior across the board, but can be a fair bit more expensive, typically speaking. That being said, finding one at just under $900 isn’t entirely off the cards, so it’s well worth shopping around if you want something with a bit more VRAM and some of the latest features brought forward by Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture.
