Mid-range gaming laptops are some of the best options to go for since they have powerful components, but the price doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. We spotted the MSI Katana gaming laptop on sale, and currently, it has 8% shaved off its original price. So, instead of setting you back $1,749, it’ll cost you $1,617.
This is a decent price tag for a laptop that holds the RTX 5070 and the i7-14650HX under the hood. So, we think it is definitely worth checking out, but if you want to explore options, we’d recommend you check out the early Black Friday laptop deals.
MSI Katana 15.6″
- It has a decent price tag
- The RTX 5070 is perfect for 1440p gaming
- It comes bundled with a 512GB docking station set
- The RAM and SSD have been upgraded, though they are under warranty
What we liked about this gaming laptop
For starters, this gaming laptop has a decent-sized display, which has a QHD resolution. It is a 165Hz IPS panel, which means that it should have good color accuracy and viewing angles, but when it comes to smoothness, you should experience plenty of that. The RTX 5070 should be able to churn out high framerates at 1440p, which this display of this laptop should showcase without any issues.
Complementing the graphics card is the i7-14650HX, a 16-core, 24-thread processor with a low TDP of 55W and a boost clock speed of 5.2GHz. What this means is that when the situation calls for it, this processor can supply more power to its core, and that is why it has a maximum power draw of 157W.
To add more value to the offer, it comes with a 7-in-1 docking station, which has 512GB of internal storage. There is also a 32GB SD card with an SD card reader, a Type-C charging port (100W), a 3-in-1 charging cable, an HDMI port, USB 2.0 and USB-C ports, and a cleaning cloth. So, on the go, you should be able to connect various peripherals, charge other gadgets, and store movies, pictures, files, etc.

Should you get this laptop?
This is a good gaming laptop deal, but the one factor you need to know is that its RAM and storage have been upgraded by a third-party to 32GB DDR5 and 1TB. While there is a 1-year warranty on this upgrade, it might be a deal-breaker for some. Besides that, it has decent specifications for the price and comes with good features like WiFi 6E, a docking station, a robust cooling system, and more. So, we think this is definitely worth considering, but keep in mind the upgrades.
