The Ryzen 9 7900X3D is the predecessor of the Ryzen 9 9900X3D, and as such, it has a good core and thread count with a massive L3 cache, which gives it outstanding gaming performance. The 120W power draw is also decent, and there was strong competition between the three X3D processors from the Ryzen 7000 lineup.
While there is no denying that there is no beating the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the current best gaming processor, the 7900X3D has its appeal due to having more cores and delivering better multi-core performance. This processor has a discounted price tag of $699.99 right now at Amazon, which is its lowest cost in 30 days.

When we shifted to multi-core performance, it was dominated by the likes of the Ryzen 7 7900X, as the previous X3D processors couldn’t be overclocked, and that hindered their productivity. However, compared to the 9800X3D, its multi-core score is much better, as we got 25,958 and 10,654.50 in Cinebench R23 and CPU-Z, respectively. The 9800X3D managed 22,815 and 8,689, respectively, in the same tests with PBO enabled.
So, this is a very decent performance difference, and in terms of percentage, the 7900X3D was 12.8% and 20% better, which is very impressive. So, for tasks that require more cores and threads, the 7900X3D would be the better choice, but keep in mind the price difference as well.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D can be overclocked and costs less, whereas the 7900X3D offers better multi-core performance but also has a heavier price tag. So, you can try to bridge the gap by further overclocking it, and that will give you better value in the long and short term. Besides that, the single-core performance is exceptional, and when it comes to gaming, no processor can touch the current king of gaming.
