The Samsung 49″ Odyssey G9 gaming monitor is currently down a whopping 36% in the Prime Day sales, bringing its price down from $1399.99 to just $899.99.

This monitor is perhaps one of the most recognizable displays from Samsung in recent years, thanks to its sheer scale of it to be honest. While 49″ monitors are now quite common, and there are newer variations on this particular model, here are a few features that still make the G9 one of the best on the market even today.

  • 1000R curved screen: Designed with immersion in mind, sitting in front of this is quite the experience, whether you’re gaming or working.
  • 240hz refresh rate: That’s the same refresh rate as a competitive gaming monitor, meaning you’ll be able to play fast-paced games at high frames per second on this monitor.
  • G-Sync/ FreeSync Premium Pro: Both are essential for tear-free gameplay, and FreeSync Premium Pro is actually the very highest level of adaptive sync technology AMD has.
  • QLED: While not an OLED display, QLED is great for brightness and color. It’s the same technology found in many of the best TVs.

What we think of this deal

This monitor does dip in price from time to time through the year, but we haven’t seen it get this kind of discount for a while now, which does make us think it’s a great time to buy one.

As for bang for your buck, to put things into perspective, we recently saw a monitor from LG that was reduced to the same price but came in at 34″. For the same price, you could go all in with something truly epic…not bad if you ask us.

What we would say is to make sure you’ve got the room for this and the monitor arm to support it. We wouldn’t recommend it if you’re playing on PS5 and Xbox Series X either as it doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 and you’ll be playing with black bars on either side if it’s not compatible with an ultrawide display ratio.

For PC gamers, racing gamers, or professionals that need a lot of desktop space – we’d say it’s well worth considering.
