We haven’t reviewed this exact variant, but we did put the RTX 5080 FE and ASUS ROG Astral 5080 OC through their paces in our testing lab. The difference between these GPUs is that the MSI variant has a 2,715 MHz boost clock, the 5080 FE has a 2,617 MHz boost clock, and the ROG Astral RTX 5080 has the highest boost clock of 2,790 MHz.
So, it wasn’t surprising to find that the ROG Astral had better output than the FE variant, but it wasn’t a huge difference. In Cyberpunk 2077, we got 220 FPS with the ROG Astral and 213 FPS with the FE model. At 1440p, the gap increased ever so slightly with 159 and 151 FPS. However, at 4K, there was a huge difference as we got 75 and 72 FPS, respectively.
With DLSS 4 and MFG set to 4X, we got 189 and 183 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing set to overdrive at 4K. So, once again, there isn’t a lot of difference, and we expect the MSI RTX 5080 Trio OC should perform at the same level, somewhere between these two, as it has a higher clock speed than the FE variant but isn’t quite there compared to the ASUS ROG Astral variant.
